Britain’s leading driver in the European Rally Championship – Chris Ingram, says he has never felt better ahead of the biggest fortnight of his career. The 22 year old from Manchester will be once again joined by English co-driver Elliott Edmondson for the World and European championship double header of events, beginning with the WRC ADAC Rallye Deutschland starting on the 18th August.
The Opel works team will then drive directly from the finish of the German rally to the Czech Republic, for Round 5 of the European Junior Rally Championship. Ingram leads team-mate Marijan Griebel by 11 points after four consecutive podium finishes.
Rallye Deutschland will be Ingram’s first foreign and first tarmac World Rally Championship event, but he can take confident from his previous R2 record in the WRC having won the class both times he competed at WRC Wales Rally GB (1st R2 in 2013- Renault Twingo R2 & 1st R2 2014 in Peugeot UK 208). Over 200,000 spectators are expected to attend the event which starts in the historical town of Trier and heads out towards the infamous vineyard stages around the Mosel valley. BT Sport and Channel 4 will cover the 130 teams racing the 306 gruelling competitive-kilometres over three days.
Ingram commented- “It has been an incredible season so far and I hope to carry this momentum through these two huge events. I will aim to finish on the podium in Germany as it is my first time there, however it will be tough against a very strong R2 field where our Opel team will face competition from works Peugeots and the DMACK Fords. Finishing is number one and keeping the car in one piece, as the following week we return to the European Championship for the crucial Barum Czech Rally. I will definitely be pushing for the win there!”
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me and helped me get to this stage, including my partners Opel Motorsport, Andrews Sykes, Express Solicitors, DSG Auto Contracts, Clarity Wealth and Legend Fires.”
