Early ERC Junior scrap between Opel team mates

A titanic early ERC Junior scrap between Ingram and Griebel

The early battle in ERC Junior on the Kenotek Ypres Rally could hardly be closer, with just one tenth of a second splitting Marijan Griebel and Chris Ingram after three stages.

First on the road among the ERC Junior contingent after setting the pace on the Qualifying Stage, Ingram was fastest on SS1 Dikkebus by 3.9 seconds.

Griebel however took 1.5s out of his Opel team-mate when he topped SS2 Wijtschate, then another 2.5s by being fastest on SS3 Mesen.

Julius Tannert has made it an all-Opel Rallye Junior Team top three, sitting 23.3s off the lead after three stages.

In another Adam R2, Callum Devine has made a fine start to his ERC Junior debut in fourth, ahead of Łukasz Pieniążek. Kristóf Klausz is sixth on his return to the category ahead of Joonas Tokee, Dominik Brož, Marco Cid and Catie Munnings.

Azores winner Diogo Gago’s bid for back-to-back ERC Junior triumphs ended on the first stage after contact. “The back went completely under braking and there was nothing we could do,” said the Portuguese Peugeot driver, who made the end of the stage but went no further.

Failing to even complete the first test was Nikolay Gryazin, who ended up in one of Ypres’ famous ditches.
