Chris Ingram to make Junior WRC Debut on Wales Rally GB
After a spectacular season in the Junior European Rally Championship at the wheel of Peugeot UK’s 208 R2, Chris Ingram is being given the opportunity to make his debut in the Junior World Rally Championship, on the British final round of the WRC – the prestigious Wales Rally GB.
Chris’ debut full season competing in the European Rally Championship saw him take his maiden victory in stunning fashion on Rallye Azores at the wheel of the Peugeot UK sponsored 208 R2, as well as winning his second Colin McRae Flat Out trophy – In which he is the youngest ever winner.
Now, on the 12th to 15th November, the 21 year old will drive a Citroen DS3 R3 Max for the first time, competing for the experienced UK team Autosport Technology. Chris will be the leading English driver in the Rally and one of the youngest competing. He will be alongside his French co-driver Gabin Moreau once again.
Chris has won the lower R2 category in the Wales Rally GB the last two year (2013 & 2014), so the DS3 R3 is a perfect next step. He will be racing a turbocharged car and one with a paddle shift gearbox for the first time!
Chris commented “I’m looking forward to competing with the Autosport Technology team on my ‘home’ WRC event and hope to benefit from their great expertise. It will be a big task to take this step-up to R3 on such a huge occasion as Rally GB, against the JWRC competition, but I like a challenge!”
The Wales Rally GB is a sell-out event, standing as Britain’s round of the hugely popular FIA World Rally Championship which is covered by TV channels globally. Over 100,000 spectators are expected to attend in person to follow the 19 gruelling stages in mid and north Wales covering over 300 competitive kilometres of action.
