Newly crowned European Champion gets podium finish on Vauxhall Network Q rally debut
Iconic brands Vauxhall Network Q and Andrews Heat For Hire make a successful return to British rallying
Young Brit finishes tough Rally GB event despite dramatic start
22 year old Opel works rally driver Chris Ingram signed a late deal with a star studded Team Network Q [Team mates with Jimmy McRae and Robert Duggan] to compete in Britain’s round of the World Rally Championship [Wales Rally GB].
The two-time Rally GB class winner’s iconic personal sponsor Andrews Heat for Hire [Andrews Sykes – The UK’s leading specialist hire company] joined forces with Vauxhall Network Q to support Chris in the gruelling 4-day, 330 kilometre world rally event.
Ingram was joined by 22 year old Elliott Edmondson for their first rally together on home turf, as the Brit’s were supported by the local crowds which were estimated at over 90,000 during the rally weekend, many of them at Cheshire’s Cholmondeley Castle stage which marked the first return into England for the event in 17 years.
Despite no testing time, the Brits had a magnificent start in the to the event in the Vauxhall Motorsport Junior Rally Team’s ADAM R2 on Stage 1, catching a more powerful Four-Wheel Drive “R5” spec rally car and still setting a time 6.8 seconds faster than their team-mates.
Dramatically at the start of the second stage the car suffered a mechanical problem, probably caused by the rough surface of stage 1. Fortunately the boys were able to restart on Day 2 albeit with hefty time penalties. Throughout the duration of the event they traded fastest times whilst solving setup issues on the ADAM R2’s Wales Rally GB debut.
Ingram celebrated a fantastic season by bringing the Vauxhall ADAM home on the RC4 class podium on what is one of the most difficult rallies in the world for a front-wheel drive rally car.
Chris commented; “It was a challenging week for us but we are delighted to get the car home and collect a podium place trophy. Many people have put a lot of effort in to get the car to the finish of this legendary race and not just Elliott and I, so I’d like to thank the whole Team Network Q, Vauxhall Motorsport and my sponsors Andrews Heat for Hire, Express solicitors and RMS Property Man for making it possible!”
